Cats don’t “clean” themselves, they “lick” themselves. This is a fact. The dried saliva on the fur (dander) is what most people are allergic to. It is also a fact that cats get greasy. Imagine if you didn’t wash your hair for a few months. Natural oils will build up over time leaving a stringy sticky mess!
Natural shedding takes place throughout the year, but ramps up in the spring and summer when the temperature warms up. As the hair sheds, the greasiness causes it to stick together in a clump. This clump of hair is small at first but grows fast in size. Matts then grow close to the skin and become painful for your furry friend. In extreme cases, they can be life threatening! Larger and older cats also have a hard time reaching certain areas and need help keeping tidy.
The cat groomer’s job is to control the coat with the right products and techniques. Keeping the grease and dead hair away is the responsibility of a good pet parent and can be achieved with regular grooming sessions every 6-8 weeks.
After a thorough grooming session, the amount of shedding and hairballs is significantly reduced. This in turn makes you fall in love with your little fur ball all over again!
